Eight years after its release on CD and digital platforms, the vinyl version of "Mute," the album by Fernandez 4 that won the Gardel Award for Best Jazz Album in the 2017 edition, has arrived. The group with that name was the experimental project of Cirilo Fernández, an Argentine pianist and composer born in Switzerland. At the time of recording this album, it was actually a quintet, with Nico Sorin on vocals and keyboards, Sebastián Lans on electric guitar, Mariano Sívori on electric bass, and Pipi Piazzolla on drums.
It consists of a group of songs in English, closer to indie rock than to what is studied as jazz in music schools, but it has the concept of freedom, constant search, and experimentation from that music. Piazzolla, for example, does not set any pattern on the drums but continuously seeks new ideas. And this is a premise for all the musicians in the group.
The quality of the vinyl, the first manufactured in Europe of this new stage of the Club del Disco, is astonishing, as is the graphic design, which allows for the appreciation of Costhanzo's drawings and graphic design. A luxurious material to start this new subscription, the Vinyl of the Month.
