It's a collage of influences like funky, rhythms from Brazil, reggae-dub, cumbia, and some Afro beats, creating completely deconstructed songs with a universal pop treatment, if you will; all very rhythm-based. With an urban imprint and contemporary audio.

While it's evident that everything is played live and with a certain rock energy, they aim for dance without falling into simple or catchy clichés. You can hear such a rich timbral display, vocal arrangements, texture, and musical forms that it's clear these are trained musicians who enjoy making relaxed but conscious music.

They stand as a proposal for a mestizo sound of the globalized world; even using some studio editing techniques, samplers, songs in different languages, and revisiting traditions with a new vision. In these aspects, they have a kinship with the group Doña María, mainly for their successful recreation from popular songs (tracks 2, 8, and 9). All the other songs on the album are authored by Emilio Suárez, the singer and percussionist of the group, which explains the strong rhythmic character of the work as a whole. Accentuated by a plethora of drums and percussion instruments (African, Uruguayan, Brazilian).

The versions that Korobá performs of other composers' compositions unite three key points in the group's idiosyncrasy: Magalenha (from Brazil), Saliía (anonymous from the Malinké ethnic group of West Africa), and Ya viene la triste noche (Argentinian vidala). Each of these interpretations takes them to a new sonic atmosphere in line with the general concept of the album, while also enriching it from the roots. In the lyrics of their songs, alternating singing voices present delirious and fun texts that fit seamlessly, just like the presentation graphics.

The total duration (just under 45 minutes) makes it perfect to enjoy during summer moments. Korobá is also the name of the quintet made up of musicians from various schools or scenes who are part of the hybrid underground scene in Buenos Aires, and who participate in different projects with similar searches. Here, they come together in an idea that they manage to perfectly round off in an album very much of the present South American scene, aesthetically free and developed in quality.

Produced by Emilio Suárez.
