César Franov
Interpreter
star
There are albums by bassists that seem like a sampler or a demo of the skills of the virtuoso in question. This is the album of an electric bassist who, above all, is a musician with many ideas. It's a bassist's album without a band, with just the accompaniment of a percussionist on three tracks; however, the recording never overwhelms the listening experience, as the six-string bass acts almost like a guitar with a lower register, allowing Franov a wide range of melodic possibilities when he chooses. There are moments of great tranquility, where the supposed difficulty of execution fades into the background in the face of the beauty of what is being played and expressed. There are no rough edges; the excellent recording quality achieved by technician Mario Sobrino, combined with Franov's technique and his consistently clean sound, allows us to enjoy elegant yet unpretentious basslines. With much substance and ease in his own compositions and a sincere and original interpretation of Argentine "standards," César Franov invites us to listen to this highly anticipated album, brief in duration but broad and generous enough to invite many consecutive listens. Like in the tricks of prestidigitators, everything is visible and yet something of the trick escapes us each time, which motivates a new listening experience.
