"Afinidades" is the second album by the young jazz guitarist Theo Naishtat, featuring eight original compositions. In this new work, he is accompanied by prominent musicians from the Buenos Aires scene: Leandro García de la Maza on piano, Hernán Cassibba on double bass, and Manuel Weil on drums. Each composition is crafted to create a unique atmosphere in which the quartet develops the main theme through improvisations filled with dynamics and group interactions. While different sonic landscapes are evoked in each piece, there is a strong common thread in Naishtat's writing that seeks to give coherence to the entire work. The idea of recording this album began in early 2022 when Naishtat formed the group in March to start working on new music he had composed during the summer and wanted to present in concert. "I composed the music specifically to play it with Leandro, Hernán, and Manuel. They are musicians I have admired for several years, and being able to bring them together in the same group was truly amazing." Throughout 2022, the group had various performances in concert halls and jazz clubs such as Borges 1975, Prez, MACBA, Nempla, Cultural San Martín, Notanpuan, among others. In November 2022, the quartet had its recording session at Estudio Doctor F, with the great Pablo Lopez Ruiz as engineer. This album is Naishtat's first work as a composer, as his previous album ("Refugio," 2021) is primarily an album of arrangements of standards and Argentine music.
