Pájaro de Fuego, the group led by keyboardist and pianist Esteban Sehinkman, presents its new album Cazador Galáctico (Club del Disco 2024), consisting of original compositions.

Esteban Sehinkman, a restless pianist, session musician, producer, and creator of the Real Book Argentina (the first collection of Argentine jazz sheet music), offers with Cazador Galáctico a hypnotic journey that ranges from the roots of jazz to electronic trance, passing through rock and soundscapes. This fusion, both galactic and spiritual, is captured in a meticulously crafted recording that employs various techniques to emphasize sonic three-dimensionality.

After several albums and lineups, in this new work Sehinkman introduces the new members of his group Pájaro de Fuego: Tomás Babjaczuk on drums, Martín Lozano on bass, Sebastián Lans on guitar, and Sehinkman himself on Rhodes piano and synthesizers. The alchemy of this instrumental quartet organically integrates Sehinkman's compositions, creating an album that is a full sensory, mystical, and musical experience.

The women’s quartet, composed of Belén López on double bass, Milagros Caliva on bandoneón, Noelia Sinkunas on piano, and Flor Bobadilla Oliva on vocals, brings together each artist's unique background to create a new musical language. They blur the lines of their own styles, blending their strengths to explore the song form, discovering a fresh way to communicate through an eclectic journey. Each member contributes her experience, combining original compositions and selected pieces to weave a musical tapestry that reflects the history of Latin America in song.

For this debut album, the group chose to name it after the project itself. They are joined by guests Lucy Patané, Fran Cossavella, and Julián Di Pietro. The songs convey emotions, processes, questions, and explorations that the artists ponder, inviting listeners to delve into the depths of what moves us.

Mono - Arqueología sonora de Enrique Villegas

Enrique Mono Villegas

open_in_new

star
This new album with unreleased recordings of Enrique “Mono” Villegas is released simultaneously with the book of the same name and contains precious recordings that in a way complete his "official" discography. On one hand, a gem from Carlos Melero's archive: the recording of the concert given in 1974 at the Vélez Sarsfield football stadium in Buenos Aires, before more than 20,000 spectators, alongside the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Catalan Jacques Bodmer (1924-2014).

In this concert organized by the national government and televised by Canal 13, Villegas was the soloist for George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," a piece he himself had premiered in Argentina in 1932. This recording allows us to hear Mono playing like a classical pianist following a score, although it's a work of popular inspiration to which a musician like him adds all the swing that his jazz knowledge allows.

The rest of the album consists of three home recordings made in 1955 at the pianist's home, just before his trip to the United States, where he would live for a few years. His partner on these recordings is none other than Bebe Eguía, another pioneer of Argentine jazz on tenor saxophone. This material is not available on streaming platforms.
